Rekindling Our Primitive Instincts: Biophilic Design and the Human-Nature Connection
This editorial design brings to life my undergraduate dissertation in Interior & Environmental Design, which asked: how can we use biophilic design to promote a connection between humans and nature through the rekindling of our primitive instincts? The research explores how our ancient, evolved responses to light, texture, water, shelter and greenery still shape how we feel in the spaces we inhabit, and how designers can draw on these instincts to create environments that restore rather than disconnect. In designing the publication, I wanted the layout itself to echo the subject matter, using a natural palette and considered pacing to guide readers through dense academic content in an accessible, visually engaging way. The result is a piece that translates complex research into a clear visual narrative, bridging my interior and environmental design background with my practice as a graphic designer and illustrator.
